    Visit Sarasota County is proud to announce that its President, Virginia J. Haley, has been re-appointed to the Visit Florida Board of Directors through June 30, 2022. Haley currently serves as the 2019-2020 Chair of the Visit Florida Board, where she worked closely with Visit Florida to ensure the not-for-profit corporation was reauthorized through October 2023 and that funding was solidified by the legislature for 2020-2021. “Though we’ve faced a great deal of challenges recently, including the fight for re-authorization and funding, and the unprecedented effects of COVID-19, it has been an honor to serve as the Chair for VISIT FLORIDA’s Board of Directors,” said Haley. “I am excited to be re-appointed so I can continue to serve and work towards marketing programs that highlight Florida’s diversity and provide benefits to every community in the state.”

    Willis Smith Construction announces the ground breaking of Fire Station 13 located on iconic Siesta Key Beach which will be replacing the 46 year old station. The new station is a two story building with 10,500 SF. Fire Station 13 has two drive-through apparatus bays for fire and rescue vehicles. The living and sleeping quarters have 8 dorm bunks, exercise room, full bathrooms, kitchen, dining area, living quarters. The facility also includes rooms for gear and equipment storage, hose drying, laundry and EMS storage. An added feature to Fire Station 13 there will be a screened in balcony with panoramic views of the iconic Siesta Key.

    Once completed Fire Station 13 is planned to receive LEED “Certified” status through the USGBC by utilizing sustainable design requirements and is designed to withstand Category 4 hurricane winds. LEED® construction includes: incorporating a sustainable site, increased water efficiency, optimized energy performance along with increased indoor environmental quality. Specific examples of these items are: landscaping requiring zero watering after establishment; commissioning all equipment to verify optimal operational performance; use of recycled materials along with locally made local materials to decrease shipping waste; all construction debris is processed and what is recycled is diverted from landfills; the materials used on the job are low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to help in having a clean air building. The Architectural Firm of Sweet Sparkman Architects designed the facility along with consultants Quest Design Group, Inc. and Kimley-Horn.

    Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Loveland Center that will ensure children with special needs have increased access to high-quality youth development opportunities this summer. The “We Belong” program, which was launched in 2017 by local Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher Lindsay Goffinet, is an inclusive 8-week program for children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities that fosters a love for learning, builds independence and celebrates diversity in a safe, supportive environment.

    “Loveland is proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County in order to expand the We Belong summer program,” said Patrick Guerin, president and CEO of Loveland Center. “This partnership embodies both our missions and is a stepping stone to building a more inclusive community for future generations.” The We Belong program is led by certified teachers and youth development professionals at the Robert and Joan Lee Boys & Girls Club in Venice.

    “The We Belong program exists as a response to a need I discovered in our community 4 years ago,” said Goffinet. “I created the We Belong program to encompass an environment where children with exceptionalities would be accepted. With the support of Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County that goal came to fruition, and now with the added support of the Loveland Center, we will be able to continue it for years to come,” said Goffinet.

    “All children, regardless of abilities, need programs that empower them to reach their full potential,” said Bill Sadlo, President/CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County. “Thanks to our partnership with Loveland Center, our future leaders will continue to discover their unique abilities and talents to make a meaningful difference in our community.”

    With lead expansion support from Loveland Center, children in the program participate in a variety of enrichment opportunities each day that strengthen social skills, independence, communication and confidence through educational activities, interaction with peers and weekly occupational, speech and music therapy.

    “This inclusive opportunity will set the stage to educate the younger generation to shed stigma surrounding individuals with disabilities and allow others to see them for all they can be,” said Guerin. “So often, individuals with disabilities are judged based on their perceived disabilities and unfair limitations are set on them, as opposed to allowing them the opportunity to experience all that life has to offer.”

    Allegiant Private Advisors has been recognized on Accounting Today’s “Wealth Magnets” annual list as a Top Firm by Assets Under Management for 2020.     Funds from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to support career and veterans’ services programs

    SARASOTA/BRADENTON, Fla. – To help support staff positions in the mission-critical areas of career and veterans’ services, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has granted $23,000 to Goodwill Manasota. The grant will fund one Job Connection employee and cover the cost of 1.5 Veterans Services Program team members for two months.

    Goodwill is working to position itself for increased community needs as the significant impacts of the coronavirus pandemic continue to be felt. The organization is in a rebuilding phase: revenues plummeted in mid-March as community members stayed home and then its retail stores closed throughout April, resulting in the furlough of more than 80% of the organization’s workforce. However, since reopening its stores – according to the Governor’s rules and following strict CDC public health guidance – on May 4, Goodwill’s revenues have climbed back to 2019 levels. The organization has already restored the majority of its workforce and has begun hiring.

    The Job Connection program is designed to help individuals find employment or transition to better-paying jobs. Community members can benefit from career counseling, interest and aptitude assessments, assistance with resume and cover letter writing skills, interview strengthening exercises, and application submission guidance. These free services are available to anyone who wants an opportunity to overcome obstacles to employment and achieve self-sufficiency.

    Goodwill’s Veterans Services Program works to help eliminate barriers to employment, provide opportunities for higher-paying positions for veterans and their families, and connect veterans with needed social services. It also offers plentiful networking opportunities and emergency financial assistance – which will be particularly important as already at-risk veterans face COVID-19-related challenges.

    “As our community faces challenges - including reduced work hours or job losses and the closing of businesses as well as the emotional impacts of the coronavirus - Goodwill is committed to serving the community in the best way we know how," said Goodwill Manasota president and CEO Bob Rosinsky. "The funding from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County will ensure we have the capacity to be at full strength to serve job-seekers and veterans during this particularly difficult time. We are grateful to the Community Foundation for helping us to be here for those who need us."

    Halfacre Construction Company, a Lakewood Ranch-based commercial construction company, recently broke ground on a new building for North River Church in Parrish, Fla.

    Located at 5525 Fort Hamer Road in Parrish, the church’s new 10,500-square-foot addition will sit on a 10-acre parcel. The building will house a foyer, sanctuary with stage, classrooms, nursery, youth room and restroom facilities. Its existing building was converted into the church’s administration offices. Halfacre Construction Company will complete all site development and construction of the pre-engineered metal structure. The architect on the project is BWAS Design.

    “As the community in Parrish continues to grow, we recognized the tremendous opportunity before us to be a beacon of hope in this area,” said Michael Kennedy, lead pastor at North River Church. “This facility will be a great tool as we seek to continue this mission, and we are grateful to partne r with Halfacre Construction on this project.”

    The $2.4 million project is scheduled for completion at the end of October 2020.In October 2010, North River Church began as a church plant from West Bradenton Baptist Church with the goal of reaching the growing city of Parrish with the gospel. The church has met at Williams Elementary School for the last nine years and will celebrate its 10-year anniversary in its permanent facility at the end of 2020.

The Pennsylvania operations will be coordinated through FCCI’s Mid-Atlantic Region, which is headquartered in Richmond, Va., and also operates in Maryland and Washington, D.C. The company’s move into Pennsylvania demonstrates FCCI’s ongoing commitment to maintain strength and stability while leveraging new market opportunities.

 a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization, in partnership with Fisherman’s Village, is coordinating its engaging Hook Kids on Fishing Program to be held on Saturday, April 11th, 2015 from 10am- 12:00pm at Fishermen's Village (1200 West Retta Esplanade, Punta Gorda).

 Kids ages 6 to 16, are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult. The first 100 kids registered and complete the training will receive a free rod and reel to take home! Registration is mandatory by calling King Fisher Fleet at 941-639-2628.

 This hands-on, conservation-minded program teaches casting, fishing safety, knot tying, boating safety, tackle box essentials, catch and release tactics, fishing habitats and conservation, and is taught by professional guides and knowledgeable anglers.

 Community support also provided by Fisherman's Village, King Fisher Fleet, local bait and tackle shops, and local Captains, Aylesworth's Fish & Bait, Canoe Outpost-Peace River, Coastal Angler Magazine, Diiachi Hooks, Fish Florida Foundation and Rio Villa Bait & Tackle
